When contemplating installing a residential wind turbine on your property, it is important to know
how this energy saving resource actually works. A wind turbine is placed at the top of a tall
tower, and collects wind energy that is then converted to an electrical current compatible with
that of your home. In essence, you can harness free energy from the wind, and use this energy to
supplement the energy you are currently purchasing from other utilities.
In a typical home installation, power is provided by both the wind turbine and the electric
service. If the wind is below a certain rate (and therefore, not a lot of power is being produced)
the home runs on electric provided by the electric company. If the wind is above a certain rate,
then the home runs solely on wind energy. If the residential wind turbine consistently produces
more energy than is needed to run the home, then the owner can sometimes work out a deal with the
utility company to sell unneeded power to them.
A residential wind turbine is an investment that will gradually save you a great deal on energy
costs. If you live in an area with consistent strong winds, you may want to consider your energy
options. Adding a residential wind turbine to your property may save you a good deal of money as
energy costs rise.
